Hi, my name is Sumayya Rashid. I am a native of “the horse capital of the world” good ole Lexington Kentucky. I am a writer, a poet, a cosmetologist, and a mom. Being a mom to my beautiful and talented daughter Al’Nahla will forever be my greatest achievement.
I decided to go into cosmetology because I have been extremely into hair and hair products my entire life. Ever since I can remember I have always admired other people’s hair and tried to figure out what they should be doing to make it better; whether it’s changing the color, adding bangs, growing it out, or cutting it into a bob, this has been my lifelong obsession…without even me realizing it.
I am a lover of all things beautiful. I feel that I was put on this earth to help make myself and others their most beautiful, naturally. This is my passion. I have been a student of haircare my entire life. Experimenting on my own hair most of the time to find out what works and what does not, before I try it on someone else. I’m done experimenting with my hair!
I feel like I have earned the right to write this book because I genuinely care about the hair and scalp health of all women, in particular, African-American women, since I feel like we have hidden our hair for far too long. I write his book only out of love, and a desire to see us reconnect with our own tresses. This book is not meant to offend but to enlighten. This book is an accumulation of my lifelong experiments and lessons on hair. I pray that you enjoy!
